My professional attitude
|
During my psychological studies, I was mostly influenced by the work/theories of Carl Rogers and Viktor Frankl. The former is one of the founders of humanistic psychology, the latter is the founder of logotherapy. Simplified in one sentence: the focus of humanistic psychology is the healthy growth and fulfillment of the personality; while the focus of logotherapy is the meaning of life (finding it and living a meaningful life). Of course, later, during my professional work, I also met other authors who influenced me to some extent. |

When I sit afront a child or an adult as a psychologist, I primarily try to understand their point of view, and the way they see and experience the situation. Whilst I think over the possibilities and goals that can be useful in the current situation and can be used as a handhold.
Knowing the client's past is very important to me, but I focus rather on the future during counseling: achieving future goals (both near and far); and reaching a future state (either mitigating a negative state or achieving a positive state). With my questions, I also try to uncover which motivations may stem rather from the client's own honest personality, and which may come from social expectations.
Metaphorically, I see myself as a lantern-bringer who accompanies wanderers along a section of the path.
